Cooking 101
2002-02-19 :: 8:07 p.m.

I really can't wait to go home. I ran out of food last week. Completely out of funds, I put the last of my loaf of bread in the freezer and have been thawing out small pieces of it meticulously all week long.

A month ago, the whole dorms got locked out of the kitchens for good. Seems like one too many students lit the kitchen on fire. So now devoid of stoves, we are left with a microwave, and my newest arrival, the toaster oven.

Things I've learned about cooking in residence:

Don't put chicken pot pies in the microwave. They can, and will at random explode and leave caked on dough on the window that will not be scraped off with any form of chisel known to man. Then it will set off the fire alarm.

Toasting bread, putting cheese in between, buttering it, and throwing it in the microwave does not yeild a grilled cheese sandwich. It gives you a big greasy mess, that may just set off the fire alarm.

Don't buy the plates on sale at Ikea. They are not microwave friendly. They will burn you.

There is something called Rice In A Can and if you don't eat too much of it at a time the indigestion does pass.

Toaster ovens when left unattended will get angry with you and burn your tator tots, and subsequently set off the fire alarm.

The batteries can be taken out of the fire alarm with the aid of a screwdriver and a tall friend, and will make your neighbours very happy with you.

Also, thanks goes out to my buddy downtown who intercepted me trying to put tinfoil in the microwave. Apparently that is not a good idea either. Thanks, you magnificent bastard you.

Back to studying for anatomy!

Hey, did you know the tiny armpit behind your knee has a name? It's called the popliteal. Crazy!
